Easy Applesauce

by Hank Donat on 08/25/2021

A Gay Housewife® is kind. They would never be so rude as to imply your mother wasted an entire weekend in the fall. However, we keep hearing how difficult it is to make delicious homemade applesauce.

Here is the easy and reliable method we use to Make it Nice®.

Preheat Oven to 425-degrees Fahrenheit.

Peel 5-10 medium apples. Slice into wedges and season as you would for an apple pie. (Cinnamon to taste, usually no more than 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons. We also use 1/4-cup of sugar, which is very little. Our pro-tip: always half the amount sugar called for in any fruit pie recipe. Your pies will taste fantastically like fruit instead of sugar and only you will know why. Add a generous zest of lemon, 1 1/2 teaspoons.)

Line a large metal cake pan with baking paper or parchment and spread the apples in the pan. Fold the paper over the top and cover with foil.

Bake for 40-45 minutes. (This is longer and hotter than you would bake an apple pie.)

Let it cool on a rack, covered but vented, for 30 minutes.
Pour the cooked apples into a mixing bowl.

Stir to desired consistency.
Serve.
Accept compliments graciously.
